Hello !
First of all, welcome to thew new mylansite Newsletter. I finally stopped using the old Joomla! Mass Mail option and replaced it with the awesome free newsletter component AcyMailing. If you are looking for a Newsletter component for Joomla! yourself, give them a try. The great advantage for you on mylansite.org is that you can remain a registered user on the website but still opt out (see bottom of this email) of this Newsletter if you wish.
Additionally, a great thanks to everybody who downloaded the components since I have introduced the charge! This has been a great support and will definitely give me the energy to keep this project alive (it just about paid for the server rent this month).
Now that the first hurdle has been challenged - mylansite now runs on Joomla 1.5! - it is time to look into the future. I would assume that many of you would like mylansite to run in Native mode. I am actually thinking a step further and am planning on rewriting the components to make use of the MVC model. You might wonder what great advantage that would bring to you? Well, first and foremost, this makes mylansite more future proof (looking ahead to the release of Joomla! 1.6). Additionally, using the MVC allows you to completely change the layout of every single page generated by the mylansite component! You can override any layout from within your own template and all you need to know to do it is a bit of HTML and CSS.
Before I embark on a big upgrade and rewrite I would like to hear from you what you think about mylansite so far and what you would like in the future.
Feel free to start a thread in the Feature Requests forum or just contact me by email. I can only create the perfect component for you if you tell me what you want and need!
I have recently done some (a lot!!) of work on the tournaments component. I have noticed that some people use it to run online leagues rather than using it for LAN Party tournaments. This has given me the idea to upgrade and re-vamp it to make it more fit for online use. Development of the basic features has been completed, and a lot more is planned for the future. So far the biggest changes over the old Tournaments component are:
If you are interested in this component, please send me an email. This new component will most likely become available to the public at a charge, but I'd like to work with some people in the early stages to get everything right!
Additionally, I am working on a component for Clan management (Squads, Matches, etc...). Please also contact me if you are interested in hearing more about it or requesting features.
I hope that in the future, mylansite can either remain to be or become the software solution of choice for you next Lan Party. All I am trying to do is giving you guys great software to work with and making running Lan events just that little bit easier and more fun!
