New Joomla! 1.5 Native releases PDF Print E-mail

Some of you might already have noticed that there are two new updates.

A new version (2.5.0) of the events component has been released a few weeks back already (and a small updated version 2.5.1 a bit later), version 2.5.0 of the seatmap component has been released just now. Both now run in native mode, so no need any more to use the legacy plugin in Joomla! 1.5.

Both versions bring much more than just fixes for native mode. Check the download repository pages for a complete changelog, but the most important ones are:

  • Email notification for the events component (e.g. when a user is marked as 'Paid')
  • New 'Pay cash at door' and 'Bank transfer' payment options
  • Much cleaner front end display in the events component
  • New permissions model in the seatmap components (e.g. you can now allow 'Pending' customers to temporarily hold a seat for themselves until their payment has cleared)

To upgrade, as usual, just uninstall the previous component version and install the new one.

IMPORTANT: You will lose your component configuration when you upgrade because it is stored in a file. So, after upgrading, please make sure you quickly glance at all the new configuration options to make sure you are happy with your settings. I know this is a problem and in the seatmap component from this version onwards, the configuration is stored in the database. The same will count forĀ  he next release of the events component too.

I would also like to use this opportunity to highlight the great value subscriptions! For just 12GBP you get unlimited access to all new mylansite releases for a whole three months - and for 40GB for the whole year! Avoid having to pay that small fee again when you want to upgrade by getting a subscription today!

Roadmap update

These are the planned combined features for the next few releases of the seatmap and events components:

  • Different seat/ticket categories
    • Specify your own categories of tickets and seats (e.g. lower, standard, higher)
    • Users are then only allowed to occupy a seat of a matching (or lower) category
  • Allow users which buy multiple tickets to permanently occupy the matching number of seats
    • So if Bob buys five tickets for his clan, he can immediately block five seats, before his four friends even sign up on the website
  • Allow users to submit a comment when they order a ticket (and then notify the admins)

Updated components and new subscriptions PDF Print E-mail

I have just published new versions of three of the components:

com_mls_events 2.0.6: This improves the handling of PayPal Instant Payment notifications in the back end. You also no longer have to manually configure the notification URL within your PayPal account for IPN to work.

com_mls_tournaments 2.0.2: Minor fixes in the frontend (link routing)

com_mls_teams 2.0.2: There was an error when a guest (no user logged in) tried to view a team. This has been fixed.

If you have previously purchased any of these components, the new version is available to you free of charge. If you were logged in when you made the purchase, just go to your My Details page and select the Purchased Downloads tab to re-download. If not, the links in your order confirmation email will now automatically download the new version.

As development on mylansite continues and plans for a 1.5 Native version are undergoing, new versions of the components might be chargeable again. To make it easier for you to stay updated you can now obtain mylansite in two subscription packages (yearly and quarterly).

If you purchase a mylansite subscription, you will be entitled to download any new mylansite release whilst your subscription is active. You will not incur any additional charges - only to renew the subscription. That means: If I release a 100% brand new version of mylansite on the last day of your subscription you'll get it - for free.

New - minimal - charge for file downloads! PDF Print E-mail

As you will notice, there is now a (very very VERY small) charge on the files you find on the downloads page. I have had to introduce this charge as the amount of donations this project receives (read: none) do not cover the running costs of the web server. The charges are:

com_mls_events Events Component GBP 2.50
com_mls_tournaments Tournaments Component GBP 2.50
com_mls_seatmap Seatmap Component GBP 2.50
com_mls_teams Teams Component FREE
mod_mls_checklist Checklist Module FREE
mod_mls_checklist Checklist Module FREE
mod_mls_eventstatus Event Status Module FREE

I am giving the Teams component away for free as it is needed to use the Tournaments component (and is of no much use on its own).

Payments via PayPal are accepted and the checkout process should be very painless. Once purchased (and once PayPal notified my website of your payment) you will received an automated email containing the download links.

You do not have to be registered to purchase and download any components, though if you are, you get the added benefit of a "Purchased Downloads" tab on your profile page where you can re-download everything you've purchased so far.

I hope that you'll all understand this charge and that the VERY low fee will help me keep this up and not stop you from downloading. I am sorry I've had to introduce this new system, but otherwise, it would just not have been worth wile any more.

Feel free to contact me with any questions, problems or concerns.

How to set up PayPal Payment notification PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 22 March 2010 20:27

I noticed that a lot of people couldn't get automatic PayPal notification to work properly. Mainly, because there is no documentation for mylansite (at the moment). To make sure people get this right in future and to avoid you a lot of trouble (and to bridge time until proper documentation exists), I am creating this article for you.

For those who are not aware of this feature: You can directly accept payments for tickets using PayPal. Once a visitor to your website has paid for his tickets, PayPal can send an IPN (Instant Payment Notification) back to your website. mylansite will read and verify this notification and - if everything is ok - mark the participant as paid and enable him to use the other tickets he bought (if he bought more than one).

A few steps are needed for this to work correctly. If you follow this guide step by step, you won't have any problems.
